A business enterprise wouldn't be a success without the help of ordinary employees. No matter how intelligent, talented and hardworking you are, your business would be nothing without anyone helping you.
Business process outsourcing services for instance, would not be up to par if the professionals are not skilled enough to implement it. Employees are the core of the company. Without them, the leader couldn't lead anyone.
How would you hire the right person for the job? Would you base it on his education or experience?
Ask the following questions to yourself while interviewing an applicant:
1. Is this person capable of handling the tasks assigned to him?
Some people have less education but they have acquired knowledge through years of experience. Others do not have experience but rank top of their educational class. Determine whether you need a person of theory or experience and what that person can do for you.
2. Is this person perfectly fit for the job?
Some people apply for a certain job but fail to notice it isn't for them. Imagine a shy person running for a political position. It wouldn't suit him. If you find a good position for that person, ask his permission to transfer him to that position. If not, don’t hire him. He would just be a burden.
3. Is this person flexible?
Verify if that person can work along with others. If he is capable enough, can he handle more than what it expected of him? Can he improve and move along with changes?
4. Does this person possess the right character?
Character is more important than skills. Who needs a person who knows so much yet lacks respect? You wouldn't want him treating you and his workmates like a slave when you are the boss.
5. Is this person committed to be an asset for this company?
Figure out if the person is thinking about staying for long. You wouldn't want someone to stay for a short time and disappear when you need him. Also determine if this person stays to help you. Other people apply to spy and use your companies’ strategies to build or improve another company.
If you are hiring web content writers, for example, allow each applicant to write impromptu and check his spelling, grammar and how he organizes his sentences. Find the right employees and your business will surely be on top!
These questions wouldn't be answered by just looking at a person’s resume. You need time to get to know him. The interview doesn't end with just asking questions. You need to assess his character as well and how he answers your questions.
